It ceased operation in the 1860's,as did most other gris mills do to wheat bly, or whatever it's rightly called. The wheat industry in this area never recovered, and most farmers moved further west as a result. There's one more complete about 3 miles from here, but is part of a farm of sorts. If you're ever down there again, go south out of whalan, torwards Rushford/Peterson on 16 until you hit a cement bridge, hang a right. Keep going down that road until you hit a "Y"..take a left..take you right past it. Go there in the summer and you might catch the land owners at their cabin vacationing, I believe they'd allow you to get a closer look..decent people. I'm a history buff, lol. Hopefully that filled in the blanks. Oh and the river, is actually a creek, it's also known as the Gribbon Creek. It empties into the Root River.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13122238.post-75887864026410878712014-01-17T17:15:35.166-06:002014-01-17T17:15:35.166-06:00Oh really, well that's cool!Oh really, well that's cool!Jackiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09201186319647600605noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13122238.post-38356044007724146012014-01-17T15:02:20.146-06:002014-01-17T15:02:20.146-06:00Dad thinks it was a mill where people took their w...Dad thinks it was a mill where people took their wheat and oats to have it ground into flour and such.<br />grannyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01770572048084390581noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13122238.post-19442642023671920892014-01-16T21:36:07.482-06:002014-01-16T21:36:07.482-06:00I'm dying to know!I'm dying to know!Jackiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09201186319647600605noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13122238.post-87364781440712250092014-01-16T21:35:46.517-06:002014-01-16T21:35:46.517-06:00Rachel, it's really out in the middle of no wh...Rachel, it's really out in the middle of no where, if I remember right, the closest town is miles away.Jackiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09201186319647600605noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13122238.post-75562269822077352472014-01-16T11:09:00.500-06:002014-01-16T11:09:00.500-06:00Beautiful...wonder what it was used for???Beautiful...wonder what it was used for???Jenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15051783146538864637noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13122238.post-42027179299076914502014-01-16T07:31:38.124-06:002014-01-16T07:31:38.124-06:00That is a very cool building. I alway wonder what it used to be...it's in such an odd location but it's such a cool building! Is it located near a curve along a creek/river on a remote gravel road that leads either to Lenora or Highland? Flour mill perhaps?Minnesota Prairie Rootshttp://mnprairieroots.comnoreply@blogger.com
