Beach walks on Tybee Island (the final post)

Every morning and mostly every afternoon Rick and I went for some Long Beach walks.

We enjoyed looking for pretty shells and watching the waves come in.

I had some fun with this little guy.

We were also on a shipping lane, so it was fun to see the different ships come in with cargo. 

 My husband snapped this when I wasn't looking.

I had to take this photo of Rick talking with a guy on the beach who was fishing,

Back from our walk and soaking up the sun.

I love this man and feel more than blessed that he's mine.

Our 35 years (plus 5 more for dating) hasn't seemed that long.

He makes it easy and fun to stick around and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Here's to many many more years together, loving on our grandbabies, taking trips, cabin time, 

family time and best of all....us time!

Our Anniversary get away continued.....

I took a small break from posting on our spring trip, 

I'm back.....

The last 5 nights of our anniversary getaway was Tybee Island

A small quaint island off the coast of Georgia. We loved this place, 

it was small easy to navigate, quiet and what we like to call an authentic island.

 We found a one bedroom condo on Airbnb.com it was perfect for the two of us

It was close to the beach and we had a nice private setting at the beach itself.

There was a cute little coffee place about two blocks from our condo, after our morning walks we often came here for a treat and to catch up with family "going-ons". 

I didn't want to miss a single photo of those grand babies.

 We spent every afternoon out here basking in the sun. 

It was mild, only in the mid to upper 70's, but that is about perfect for us!

Part 3 of Charleston, Anniversary trip

By now you may have figured out that I loved Charleston! 

Other than than the beach.... it was my favorite part of the trip.

Today I wanted to share Historic Charleston, oh my...the history, it's fascinating!

Rick and I are "self-guided" walkers,
we enjoy exploring, taking our time, talking and enjoying the view.

It wouldn't be right if you made a trip down south without stopping at the Waffle House.

We had to see what all the hype was with this area called The Battery...

The Battery is a scenic parkway shielded by a fortified seawall on the tip of the peninsula 

formed by the joining of the Ashley and Cooper Rivers.

The streets are lined by historic homes, describes as Antebellum homes (Pre civil war)

The following photo's give just a taste of these homes, mostly built in the mid 1700's

Love the Palmetto Trees that line the streets in front of these homes

So much pride of ownership, I really wanted to go in that room on the roof.

 Curb-appeal

Most of these home has gas-fueled lights that remained on even in the day light.

Pink seemed to fit right in as most of the houses were of pastel colors.

So much detail, gas light, arched doorway, flowers, beautiful windows...

We were enamored by many churches in Charleston, this one stood out on our walk

The graveyard is the city's oldest burial grounds with monuments dating from 1695 

As an avid graveyard lover, I found this graveyard to be quite amazing...

Part 2... But part 1 of Charleston on our Anniversary road trip

Our next destination after staying at the foot of the mountains of TN was Charlston SC.

Our hotel was on one side of this bridge, Charleston on the other side.

We stayed 3 nights in Charleston, each morning we woke up and took a walk, 

one day we walked nearly all the way across. 

It was a beautiful sight with the Cooper river on both side, which eventually flows into the Atlantic, and the city of Charleston in the foreground,  we even caught a glimpse of a couple of dolphins.

Sunny skies and mid 70's seemed about perfect for our sight-seeing days.

Fort Sumter was on the agenda for our 1st day in Charleston

My guy like to read all the detail while this girl looks around for photo opportunities.

Just off the South Carolina coast lays an island fortification that is rich with American history. 

This man-made structure in the middle of Charleston Harbor is credited with 

having had the 1st shots of the Civil War.

The original fort had walls that were 5 ft. thick, and they stood 50 feet tall.

The only way to the fort is by Ferry or personal water craft.

Fort Sumter was designed to house 650 men and 135 guns in three tiers of gun emplacements, 

although it was never filled near it's full capacity.  (Wikipedia)

Did I mention it was very windy this day???

There are several areas in the fort walls where unexploded shells still remain.

Pretty interesting stuff, Fort Sumter was well worth our time.
