Before my career is over I will excel in compassion

~~~
Hello you alls
I don't really have much to say, but I thought I could update you on my new job thus far.
Today I got my first full-time pay check since 1984....WOW woooo hooooo I could get used to that in a heart beat. Not really, to tell you the truth I would much rather make my 1/2 time salary, so that I can be home where I belong. I HATE this full time crap, BUT..... I'm really liking the job, which makes getting up every day tolerable.
~~~
It's a very interesting job, and I'm amazed at what those radiologist are able to do. I spend alot of my time in the procedure room with my mouth hanging open, just watching in pure amazement. It's very cool !
~~~
Unfortuatley the patients are very sick people and have been through alot. I am finding that compassion is the name of the game in this job as I watch my co-workers Love these patients and treat them as if they were a family member. My hard core, "get um in and get um out" mentality will have to change. (as it was, and sort of had to be in the ER and in the recovery room) Yesterday my precepter layed her head right next to a patients head to comfort them during a very difficult and scary procedure. It was enduring to see that. I hope I will soon feel like "Florence Nightengale" and not like "nurse Ratchet".
~~~
I'm learning new stuff every day, I really like the peeps I work with, they are all very helpful and funny.... So far so good, more updates to follow.

  1. Jackie, thank God in heaven for people like you! I am exactly the opposite having too much compassion for those who are suffering. I can't disconnect myself from their pain enough to be of support. That is why you're so good at what you do. You have found that balance between compassion for the sufferer and just getting the job done so the healing can begin. God Bless you and all those like you! Where would we be without you?!

  2. Sounds like a great job for you. Being able to take time to care for the patients rather than "get um in get um out".
