Well as promised, here an update on the new job.
Today was my 5th day of orientation in "Interventional Vascular Radiology". It's a cool job and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna like it, I'm just at the stage of thinking I should know everything but I dont. I just get antsy with my "unknowingness".
Today I learned alot about charting from my friend Sharalyn...who happens to do it the right way. My precepter takes charting with a grain of salt, and doesn't feel the need to teach me all the stuff I should know. Sharalyn opened my eyes, and now I feel alot better about the charting process.
It's fun to be in the procedure rooms, We (the nurse) work with a Radiologist, a lab tech and a radiology tech. The Radiologist sticks a tube in the patient, usually in the groin or neck and somehow, while watching it under x-ray(flouroscopy) fishes the little wires through the bigger tube into tiny arteries and veins. It's quite amazing. I think I spend most of my time standing there with my jaw hanging open in utter amazement. It's very interesting !!! Part of our job when not in the procedure room is also to recover the patients, since we have given them drugs to make them very sleepy and drugs to help them forget anything that just happened to them.
So that's just a little tiny bit about my job, I have heard that there are over 200 different procedures that are done in our area, crazy stuff man.
The only pitfall right now is that I am working full time for my orientation. I haven't worked more than "1/2 time" for 23 yrs, so it's a little exhausting to my system. In about 6 weeks I'll cut back a bit, and then this fall I get to be at my 1/2 time status again. Oh, I cant wait. It's probably best though cuz then I can be there and really learn my job.
So you say..... "Jackie, what are you gonna do with all that extra money"? Well .... We are hoping to do some updating and re-modeling in our upper level, including new carpeting throughout, new countertop and flooring in the kitchen, new kitchen sink and possibly a new patio door. Our 20 year old house is in great need of a new interior face lift.
So there you have it in a nut shell. Hopefully I didnt bore you all to death. I'll keep you well informed of my progress as I continue to figure out what the heck I'm doing in this new role.
Glad you like it so far! It's cool that you will have a lot of extra money so that you can do some remodeling! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI have a few other remodeling ideas you can use that extra cash for...course it involves the renovation of MY home...not YOURS. But Hey...a girl's gotta dream right?
ReplyDeleteP.S. Glad you're liking your new job. It will be a better fit for you now. Good Luck!
