A mix of photography, recipes, personal thoughts, faith, and lots of family stuff, but not necessarily in that order.

Road Trip

Every year I take a road trip with my dad
We head down to "God's country" as he puts it.

That translates into SE Minnesota/ NW Iowa
Rushford, Lanesboro, Mabel, Black Hammer, Sheldon, Houston, Caladonia, Dorchester, Yucatan, & Spring Grove (not in that order)

It's fun to see the old homesteads, Hear about family I never met and
listen to stories about Dad's childhood

and then there's the beauty of the landscape...
OH MY GOODNESS

It's no wonder it's called "Gods country"

I love old barns the ones with the stone foundations
and real wood...and red.

Lunch in Lanesboro, such a neat little town
Old stone house, thought it was cool.

Erickson road....
I'm an "Erickson",
so we drive up to this road and dad says,
"Have I ever brought you here"?
Nope....

So we turn onto "Erickson Road" and drive a bit the road starts as gravel

and eventually just goes to a grass road.
I love that we are driving on grass in the middle of a corn field,
heading toward a wind mill that's covered in vines

As we get a little closer we drive up to this old barn...
My great-uncle Ernest's barn.
The house is no longer standing and
the way the barn looks it won's be for long
I love this old barn.
Across the valley to the left (not in the picture) is my Great-uncle Grant's farm
So very cool to see all this.

The colors are near peak in some areas, but most will be at peak in about a week or so.
Such a great day with Dad... Mom, your next  :)

  1. How cool! I love Erickson road and now it turns to grass and then your great uncle's barn. I didn't know you had so much family near by, with their farms and such, how cool!

  2. I used to love going on little road trips with my dad and hearing his stories of his childhood. Except he grew up in downtown Buffalo, so no barns. And most of his old houses he lived in have been knocked down or the neighborhood is just too bad now to stay hanging around in too long.
