Yesterday (Saturday) was a perfect day for a little road trip,
I needed to see me some barns,
smell me some country air and
drive me some gravel roads
There are some amazing old barns in Fillmore county, to see them
brings a sense of remembrance to the lives of the people
that settled around this area over the years.
I was lucky enough to have the coordinates for the first barn,
I've seen pictures but really wanted to see it in person,
so Rick plugged in the numbers and away we went.....
Only about 40 minutes from home....perfect
Time to kick up some gravel
Here's the beauty...
The Waller - Ahern Round Barn located
south east of Chatfield in Fillmore County
Stone foundation, weathered wood...love the gray color
The barn sits right across the road from the Ahern home
It was built in 1900
I found some literature on the Ahern barn, "visitors are encouraged to take pictures from the road,
this working farm still has livestock on it, so for safety sake
the owner requests visitors to stay outside the fence".
(you know I wanted to go inside that fence)
My next post will feature a drive through barn, it was featured in out local newspaper last week,
which sparked my curiosity to go check it out myself...stay tuned
I know exactly how you feel. We got our country drive in yesterday, although we did not find anything as interesting as that round barn. It's beautiful. Yes, I would have had a difficult time staying on the other side of that fence.
ReplyDeleteNeat pictures of the barn.

Floods every where on Sunday.

ReplyDeleteThanks Jill, only one of a dozen I want to visit in Minnesota.

ReplyDeleteYou are such the traveler! I don't like driving and cars enough to do that! However, if there were flea markets and antique/junkmarkets on the way, I'd def do it!
I just love the country and barns and old buildings and....well you know, I've blogged enough about it :)
