I remember being a little girl,
visiting grandma at the Farm (near West Concord).
Mom would make us dolls out of the flowers/buds from grandma's Hollyhocks
Mom's beautiful Hollyhocks
Upside down flower in my hand... mom preparing the bud
which will be the dolls head
poking the stem of the flower into one of the side holes on the bud
and there you have it
a Hollyhock doll
Isn't she pretty
Sitting pretty!
The other cool thing mom used to make us kids while at the farm was "willow whistles"
She would send us out to the willow tree to fetch a branch,
then she would go to work making us kids each a whistle, they looked like this....

Oh the things we did on the farm, those were the days, making toys out of nature, climbing trees, exploring the buildings, pure playing.
I wish everyone could have the experience of growing up on a farm. You had to mind your P & Q's back in those days.
ReplyDeleteCute, cute, cute. And what sweet memories. I was blessed to grow up on a farm and still miss the country even after decades of living "in town."
ReplyDeleteOnce a farmgirl....always a farmgirl :)
DeleteIsn't a farm a great place to grow up or visit ! So many wonderful things to do and so much "nature" to enjoy. Those hollyhock dolls are too cute--what a creative idea. Have a great weekend. Mickie :)
