Back when my children were in elementary school I was very involved with volunteering
I volunteered with many things including:
*Vision & hearing screening, *Photo day, *Field trips, *Book fairs,
*Classroom parties and *weekly classroom helper.
I even remember helping in my daughter Middle school sewing class "Home Ec"
I stepped it up in the mid 90's and became a VIE (volunteer in education) Coordinator
along with my two neighbors/friends Cheri and Marcy.

For 2 years we were in charge of all the parent-volunteers in our children's elementary school.
It involved many hours a week coordinating, delegating, and organizing specific jobs that
the teachers needed done for their classrooms. Grades K-12
Those years were busy and fun especially working side by side with my friends.
Now I'm back at it, volunteering once a week in my Grandson Carson's classroom
That's Carson in the green shirt
(I was careful not to show the faces of the other children in his classroom)
Free-time, learning Math skills
I spend and hour, one-on-one with the sweetest little kindergartner's
We work on reading and math skills,
I even get a little time to just play with them while they learn.
This week I walked in to hear them singing a song about the days of the week,
I love their teacher and appreciate her patience and sweet attitude with these little ones.
Have you volunteered in your children's/grandchildrens schools?
I'd love to hear about it.
I always loved that you volunteered! I
ReplyDeleteRemeberomg going that place to do di-cutting! I forgot you helped with my sewing class! I wanted to volunteer just like you when I had kids! How special for Carson that you come to his class! Love you! Thanks for all you did and do!
As you can now attest, it’s fun to be involved with your kids class/school! Both kids are lucky to have you as a volunteer in their classrooms! They will always remember!
ReplyDeleteWell, I just learned something new about you. Thank you for all your years of volunteering.
ReplyDeleteI volunteered in my kids' elementary school library--buying and processing books and showcasing groups of books each week. I also organized an annual used book drive and book fest and the school's birthday book program. Lots of fun. Lots of hours of hard work. But so worth it to get books into the hands of kids.
