A mix of photography, recipes, personal thoughts, faith, and lots of family stuff, but not necessarily in that order.

Yes, I do love winter....

"Winter" by definition is over, so now that it's  Spring we decided to go find it....
It's our Anniversary week and were usually try to do some kind of road trip.
This year we decided to go 3 hours south of here to get about 10 - 12 degrees warmer.
We Love West Des Moines, it's our 2nd time visiting, it's a beautiful city with much to do.

One of our favorite stops is John and Mary Pappajohn's Sculpture Park
This piece is called Nomade
He is a 27 foot tall hollow human form made of a latticework of white steel letters.
He's sitting knees tucked up and cradled by his arms.

The park is near the entry of downtown DesMoines, it's a generous 4.4 acres
and houses 29 works of art
We returned in the evening to see things lit up.

The creepy spider looks to be guarding the downtown area

The Panoramic awareness Pavilion is quite a sight...

This horse appears to be made of wood but there's more to it,

Des Moines capitol building it a sight to see, the night view is even more spectacular

I love how the structure across the street reflects the capitol building on it's glass wall.

A few of the sidewalk had these clever little sayings on them.

Can your tell what this is in the middle of a round-about
believe it or not, it's a cemetery.

We wanted to stay active and do some walking so we found this lake on google search.
Rick and I walked the 2mile trail around Grays Lake on Sunday afternoon
but it was our return trip back later that evening, after dinner that proved to be stunning....

The lighting on the bridge is worth a trip after dark to experience the rainbow effect of multicolored lights that shine from the side panels of the bridge to create a spectacular light show.
Our walk was peaceful and colorful.

The golf courses aren't open yet in Rochester so we took advantage of the driving range so Rick could buff up on his skills,  I enjoyed watching from a nearby Adirondack chair.

We enjoyed each others company, we had a well located hotel, we shopped a little,
we explored and ate some yummy food.
Another Anniversary road trip in the books!

Anyone else been to Des Moines and have any stories to tell, or other sights to see?

*** Now that it's spring I interrupt this blog to bring you the latest...

Looks like Rochester is in the clear, not sure how I feel about that.

Not even a joke, read below...
